History being rewritten...again

Well they are at it again, the PC- be anti anything British crowed, this time they are rewriting the history of The Second World War. No longer is Hitler the cause of the hideous wound on humanity that was the Second World War but rather Britain’s war time leader Churchill!

You read correctly – Churchill. In an article written for The Australian on the 15th of August (60th anniversary of the end of WWII) a David Day put forward this opinion and sadly many are buying it. I will not go into all the reasons why this idea is just stupid but below is a copy of a letter written to The Australian in support of the insane idea put by David Day:-

WHAT a breath of fresh air it was to read David Day's rational analysis of World War II. The modern, objective approach he presents has been familiar to Europeans for decades and became respectable 20 years ago even in Britain with the historical observations of John Charmley and the late Alan Clark. But until now mainstream Australian publications have, I can assure you, treated the impartial view with great suspicion. The canonisation of Churchill still lingers on in this country, and criticism is labelled "revisionism".
The fact is that the great British error was not merely to go to war in 1939 in support of the Polish guarantee (which in itself had been just a hurried and mistaken Foreign Office tactical manoeuvre) but to go on fighting in 1940 after the Fall of France. In doing so Churchill, as Alan Clark said, reversed 250 years of traditional British policy. He almost single-handedly engineered the refusal of a possible negotiated peace in order (in his mind) to preserve an empire which had never worked economically, was already in the process of winding up, and was dead 15 years later in any case. As a result of that decision half of Europe was eventually devastated: it hardly seems worthwhile. How much better to have waved the German armies goodbye off to the east – from the European point of view, always the best direction to see them go.
Churchill, the man who gave us Gallipoli, finally produced the 20th century's greatest disaster. When history looks back objectively at World War II, it is hardly likely to be as generous to him as most Australians still assume.John HallowsCremorne, NSW
